Dancehall Artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been enskinned as “Dancehall Naa,” which literally means “Dancehall King”.
The chieftaincy title was conferred on him by Chief of Tamale, Nyeb-Dakpema Fuseini Bawa, when the artiste paid him a visit at his palace on Friday.
Shatta Wale was in the palace to inform the Tamale chief about a concert he was to perform in Tamale on Saturday June 8, 2019, at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, dubbed “Storm Reign” concert.
Other artistes billed to perform at the concert are Northern based rappers and dancehall musicians Maccasio, Gaffachi Payment, Onenaira, Flawa Gaskia and Fadi Lan among others.
Shatta Wale received a warm reception from his fan base in Tamale and moved through the road in the central business district in a convoy to the Dakpema palace.
At a press conference in Tamale, Shatta Wale commended Dakpema for the title conferred on him and assured to use the title to encourage the youth to eschew indiscipline.
Shatta Wale used the opportunity to apologise for the unfortunate incident that occurred at the recent Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) between him and Stonebwoy and promised that such a thing would not happened again.
“In life, things happen and we all learn from it and we decided to organize that peace concert to smoke the peace pipe. I spoke with him as a brother and he also understood me. Stonebwoy and I have decided to set an example for the youth to emulate in addressing their grievances,” he said.
Essence of event in Tamale
The Dance hall artiste said Tamale had been his second home, adding that his greatest fans were from the North hence the event in Tamale to show appreciation to the fans.
“With this, I think anytime I want to do something I want to get my blessing from Tamale because fans in the region have been supportive in my music career,” he said.
“With collaboration with Macassio, we have a dream of promoting Tamale youth and empowering them as well as nurture them in order help them harness their talent to be able to achieve their dreams.
"We have achieved 50 percent of our concept and we are still working on it to ensure the youth identify their talents and work on them”.
